Tiny Tigers & Little Dragons
“Master Corley and his staff are on the cutting edge of Child Development with their American karate Program. They are utilizing one of the world’s most respected curriculums in martial arts, and combining it with an organized method of teaching values and principles to kids of all ages. All parents should be so lucky as to have their children train in the world renowned Joe Corley karate program.” Bob Alexander. Co-author of Zig Ziglar’s I CAN program for kids
Our students are directed from two important text books designed by the highly acclaimed Zig Ziglar organization, designed to impart those important life lessons so often passed over in the school systems. The homework assignments turned in by the kids require interaction with our parents and truly make an even stronger bond among the family members as they focus on the child’s development. Be sure to ask about the I CAN program when you visit Joe Corley karate.
Our kids classes 3-6 are divided into two age specific categories with age specific curriculum and approaches to instruction.
1) Our 3 and 4 year olds are our Tiny Tigers. The classes are fast moving, covering a number of different techniques that the kids have fun with, develop coordination and confidence, but do not feel overwhelmed with. As the Zig Ziglar course title indicates, we insure they leave the class with the feeling I CAN!
2) Our 5 and 6 year olds are our Little Dragons, and the curriculum is one step up from the Tiny Tigers in terms of our expectation levels of the children. We see the children not as they are today, but what they will become as they achieve their Black Belt and advanced Black Belt ranks. Our experience over the past three plus decades has enabled our instructors to act as martial arts coaches and mentors, and less like authoritarian drill sergeants to be feared. The results are very rewarding for the parents, the kids and for our instructors.
The Joe Corley American karate program focuses on what our students become. Our end in mind involves proactive, focused kids with the confidence, courage and character to do the right things, for the right reasons and with the right principles as they go out to an increasingly challenging world.
Be sure to let our instructors know what specific areas of development you want your children to benefit in, so that we can help you with your children in those areas.
Junior Ninjas
Our 7 –12 year olds are our Junior Ninjas. The expectation levels here increase with the older kids and we focus more on personal discipline and developing a high level of personal intensity in the children, so that they learn how to try their very best at whatever they attempt to do. They begin to learn the process of goal setting and achievement.
Our favorite quote comes from Zig Ziglar: “WHAT WE GET by achieving our Goals is not nearly as important as WHAT WE BECOME!”
Teens & Adults
Joe Corley Karate Teen Program
Joe Corley started his karate training at age 16, and he found that karate was “home”. Because of the insights of his terrific early instructors, Kim Daeshik and Bobby Dye, Joe could punch and kick and scream and relieve all those pent up teenage frustrations, and his instructors applauded him with GOOD JOB!
In this new millennium, our Teen Program is designed to offer similar outlets for frustration so many of our youth experience and at the same time provide a fun, activity driven atmosphere where the kids with common interests can join together in physically rewarding, mentally challenging activities.
Joe Corley Karate Adult Program
Joe Corley’s Adult karate program is uniquely different from many that one might experience. “Our adults have told us they want a very practical approach to their training”, Joe Corley explained, “while accomplishing a superior level of physical fitness. They have also indicated that the development of additional personal discipline is a great by-product. These are the ingredients our approach to teaching adults is based on. Our recent additions of Krav Maga (see movie on front page) and Warrior X-Fit training are in line with our practical philosophy of effectiveness and practicality”.
“While traditional martial arts instruction offers a good way to move your body, there are techniques taught that are based on principles that defy physics or hurt body parts in the long run. It’s not prudent to hang onto old teachings unless they are as practical today as they were when they were created.”
A new adult student at Joe Corley Karate will be treated to a free private karate lesson to explore and understand the short and long-term goals available and to ask any questions that come to mind. We encourage the “why” question from our students, and by understanding each student’s goals and objectives, our instructors are better equipped to help each student achieve those goals.
“We accept transfer students in our studio”, added 5th degree Black Belt Senior Instructor Michael Anderson. “Our attitude is that we should and do accept the rank earned by our students in their previous training, and we seek to move them forward from that rank. Many traditional schools force their students to start over, completely negating the time and energy they previously put in. We find that to be counter-productive. Our instructors are all trained by Master Corley on how to build the bridge between what a student of another style has learned and the way to apply the modern principles we teach to that training.”
